Community Participation
At Good Works Disability Services (GWDS), we believe that being part of the community is an important part of living a fulfilling, connected and valued life.
Our Community Participation supports are designed to help people build confidence, develop independence and actively participate in activities and experiences that are meaningful to them. We work alongside each person to understand their interests, goals and preferences and support them to engage with their community in ways that are safe, respectful and empowering.
Our support may include:
- Supporting participation in social and recreational activities
- Attending community events and local activities
- Visiting libraries, parks, shopping centres and other community facilities
- Supporting participation in hobbies, interests and group activities
- Developing social skills and building meaningful relationships
- Supporting access to community groups and activities
- Assistance to attend appointments and community-based activities where appropriate
- Encouraging confidence, independence and decision-making
- Supporting people to explore new interests and develop new skills
- Assistance with community engagement and maintaining social connections
We recognise that every person has different interests, abilities and aspirations. Our approach is therefore person-centred and goal-focused, giving each individual choice and control over how they participate in their community.
At GWDS, we don't simply take people into the community—we walk alongside them, encouraging participation, building confidence and creating opportunities to experience connection, belonging and greater independence.
Love in Action. Truth in Everything We Do.
Supporting people to connect, participate, belong and live life with confidence and purpose.
